Biography
Claire grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada – and now lives on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. Between those places, she has lived in Whitehorse, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and parts of Germany and England.

After earning two degrees in English, Claire set out to make her living as a writer. She has worked as a radio copywriter, newspaper and radio reporter, book editor, and university instructor. She had a brief stint as a government communications officer – and a longer, more useful spell coordinating a climate change research network. For most of her career, however, Claire has been a freelance writer.
Currently, she spends much of her time writing fiction and nonfiction for children and young adults. She also does some freelance journalism, and she writes and edits major science-based reports and studies.
